IT terminology can be confusing. Here is a glossary of the most important concepts, explained simply and without technical jargon.

Active Directory (AD)

Microsoft's system for centrally managing the users and computers of a company. It allows single sign-on and consistent security policies. Learn more.

Backup

A safety copy of your data. It is made regularly (daily or hourly) to prevent the loss of information in the event of a failure, a cyberattack or human error. Backup FAQ.

Cloud Computing

Disaster Recovery (DR)

The plan and procedures for restoring IT systems after a major incident (fire, flood, ransomware). It includes RTO and RPO. Learn more.

Endpoint

Any device connected to the network: desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, printer. Endpoint protection means securing all of those devices.

Firewall

A device or piece of software that filters network traffic and blocks unauthorised access. The digital equivalent of a guard at the gate.

GDPR

Help Desk

A technical assistance service for users. Level 1 of IT support — it resolves everyday problems: passwords, email, printers, connectivity.

MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)

Outsourcing (IT)

Patch
